"To honour the founding of the Black Panther Party in Oakland (USA) 52 years ago today, we share some of the revolutionary artwork by its Minister of Culture and Revolutionary Art, Emory Douglas. Douglas’s iconic art help amplify the socialist principles of the organization, such as their Ten-Point Program and their dozens of community programs, including Free Breakfast for Children and health clinics for the black community members.His art was a dominant feature in the organization’s newspaper—Black Community News Service—which at its peak distributed more than 400,000 weekly to its 10,000 members. His iconic images, including popularizing the “pig” to depict police officers, gave expression to police violence experienced in black communities and drew connections to anti-imperialist struggles."
