Introducing Paulina Álvarez (lives and works in Medellín, Colombia), participating in New Poetics of Labor 2018. La escoba, by Paulina and Lebrun, is a sculpture that questions the role of women in Antioquian society, traditionally dominated by men and the Catholic religion. Exploring the rebuke to which the woman has been subjected, and liberating herself from it through the force of the object, allows for a reconciliation between pain and the female body. The sculpture is a symbol of resistance and representation of that which is typically kept silent.
